Clover has returned home after completing her 4-week residential stay, and she has been an absolute pleasure to work with.
During her time with us, we focused on improving her recall, addressing her habit of stealing items, counter surfing, chasing cats and birds, and managing her fear of traffic.
Clover has made remarkable progress. She now recalls consistently from dogs in low- and medium-distraction environments. While recall in high-distraction settings is still a work in progress, with continued practice at home, this will only improve.
We introduced a strong “drop” cue and increased her mental enrichment, which has significantly reduced her tendency to steal items. If she does grab something, she now responds well to being asked to drop it, making it much easier to redirect her to an appropriate alternative.
Clover has also developed a love for fetch, which has been a great tool for improving both her recall and her habit of stealing.
Her counter surfing has decreased dramatically, and her confidence around traffic has improved as well. While she initially struggled with any sort of road noise, she can now walk comfortably alongside roads with moderate traffic. Although large vehicles and motorbikes still make her uneasy, teaching her the “middle” command has given her a safe position where she feels protected by her handler.
One of the most notable achievements is her progress with not chasing cats. This improvement means she can enjoy much more freedom, which is a fantastic milestone for her.
We’re so proud of Clover’s progress and will miss her dearly. Well done, Clover!
