Lifespan 10-14 years

Temperament

They are friendly, affectionate, & loyal dogs. They are known for their playful & outgoing nature making them excellent family pets. They are social animals that thrive on human companionship & are generally good with children & other dogs. They are intelligent & independent, often displaying a strong-willed & sometimes stubborn personality.

Exercise Needs

They have high energy levels & require substantial exercise to stay healthy & happy. They enjoy activities such as running, hiking, & pulling sleds/carts. Regular physical & mental stimulation is essential. They excel in dog sports & working activities that challenge their physical abilities.

Training

They are intelligent but can be independent & strong-willed, making training a challenge. Consistent, positive reinforcement training methods work best. Early socialization & obedience training are crucial to ensure they develop good manners & behaviors. They respond well to a firm but gentle approach.

Grooming

They have a thick double coat that requires regular grooming. Weekly brushing is needed to keep their coat healthy & free of mats. During shedding seasons, daily brushing is necessary to manage the heavy shedding. They are generally clean dogs & only need occasional baths. Regular ear cleaning, teeth brushing, & nail trimming are also a must.

Health

They are generally healthy but can be prone to certain genetic conditions, including hip dysplasia & elbow dysplasia.They may also be susceptible to certain eye conditions and hypothyroidism. Regular veterinary check-ups, a balanced diet, & maintaining a healthy weight can help manage these risks.

Ideal Home

They are best suited for active individuals or families who can provide them with plenty of exercise & mental stimulation. They do well in homes with large fenced yards where they can run & play safely. They are not ideal for apartment living due to their size & exercise needs. They prefer cooler climates & need to be kept cool in hot weather.
