The Basset Hound is a short-legged, scent hound breed that originated in France. Known for their excellent sense of smell, they were originally bred for hunting small game such as rabbits and hares.
Despite their hunting origins, Basset Hounds have become well-known for their laid-back and easy-going personality. They are often described as one of the laziest dog breeds in the world, preferring to lounge around and nap for most of the day.

  1. Fred was love of our life. The unconditional love…..hungry boy and he heard but did it his way. Lord we miss him sooo much. Completed us.

  2. Got a precious puppy when my children were small & he was the perfect pet for my boys (and me, too) 🥰

  3. Fun fact, they have such droopy faces and large ears to help ‘sweep’ smells into their nose.

  4. I have one and it killed 3 kittens when I was not home (the kittens were not mine)

  5. Our Bassett wasn’t lazy, he was always plotting and biding his time- especially if food was involved. My dad turns his back for a second? Say goodbye to that PBJ sandwich. Leave on a day trip? We came back to find that he and our foxhound had drug out an entire sack of potatoes and tore the bag to shreds, even shoving the potatoes between the couch cushions. They were both good boys, mind you, so we trusted them.

Not kidding when I say this too: He could eat chocolate. How, we don’t know. When he somehow got ahold of some and we took him to the vet, even the doc was amazed.

  6. Lazy!!??… Tie a string of Sausages on a running car and you see how lazy they are hahaha

  7. I once was at a dog park with my mom and dog wicket and a basset hound just walks up to me and starts pawing at me for attention

  8. My parents’ basset hound is a bit of an outlier. When anyone comes through the door, she loses her mind, whining, jumping, and running in circles.
    This includes my parents.

  9. I must've had a defective one that dog had more strength and get and go than any dog ive ever owned. .

  10. When they asked to shake hands, the basset hound was like “nah I’m good” but the other dog was like “LOOK AT ME I CAN DO IT! LOOK HOW GOOD I CAN DO IT TOO! SEE?! SEE?! WHY AREN’T YOU LOOKING AT MEEEE?!!!!”

  11. If their eyes weren't so fucked up, I would get one in a heartbeat lmao

  12. I used to have a basset hound named Maggie and honestly i cried more when we let her go then when my grandpa died.

  13. This is probably the dog I will get if I reach the 60s or 70s (maybe the 80s if I'm stable enough)
