{"id":926474,"date":"2021-03-25T14:34:13","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T14:34:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wacoca.com\/news\/926474\/"},"modified":"2021-03-25T14:34:13","modified_gmt":"2021-03-25T14:34:13","slug":"suez-canal-mega-ship-could-be-stuck-for-weeks-as-captain-blames-sandstorm-for-grounding-vessel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wacoca.com\/news\/926474\/","title":{"rendered":"Suez Canal \u2018mega\u2019 ship could be stuck for WEEKS as captain blames \u2018SANDSTORM\u2019 for grounding vessel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\"  width=\"580\" height=\"385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Cj8er3vAE9M\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<br \/>\nTHE mega-ship grounded in the Suez Canal could be stuck for weeks, those trying to moving it fear.<\/p>\n<p>The captain of the 200,000 ton Ever Given has blamed a sandstorm for losing control of the ship, which is now blocking one of the world\u2019s trade routes.<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices have surged about six per cent today after ship, which is the size of the Empire State Building, ran aground.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt&#8217;s Suez Canal Authority said it was trying to refloat the 1300ft long Taiwanese ship.<\/p>\n<p>The authority a gale-force sandstorm, a common occurrence in the country&#8217;s Sinai desert at this time of year, blotted out light and limited the captain&#8217;s ability to see.<\/p>\n<p>Five tug boats are currently working to try and drag the ship free.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Berdowski, CEO of Dutch company Boskalis, which is trying to free the ship, said it was too early to say how long the job might take.<\/p>\n<p>The ship\u2019s bow and stern had been lifted up against either side of the canal, he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t exclude it might take weeks, depending on the situation,\u201d Berdowski told Dutch TV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is like an enormous beached whale.
