Afetto Lab redesigns a Brazilian beachfront penthouse to integrate architecture with the coastal landscape<\/p>\n

Afetto Lab – Creative Laboratory has completed the renovation of a 249m\u00b2 penthouse in Bertioga, on the coast of S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil, transforming it into a residence centered on the Atlantic horizon. Originally segmented and disconnected from its privileged seaside views, the apartment has been reconfigured to establish a continuous spatial flow that emphasizes openness and visual connection to the landscape. The project, titled “Apartamento Horizonte Vivo (Living Horizon Apartment)”, focuses on integrating architecture and environment while accommodating three generations of a family within a shared summer retreat.<\/p>\n

Integration that enhances space and breathability<\/p>\n

The kitchen, previously enclosed, was repositioned to face the horizon and function as the central gathering point of the home. A defining element is the use of Vivid Green Brazilian quartzite, introducing a natural green tone that contrasts with the surrounding light cabinetry. In the gourmet area and dining room, the removal of barriers between interior and exterior spaces allows for a seamless connection to the balcony. By eliminating doors, approximately 20m\u00b2 of additional usable space was incorporated into the social area. A custom-designed dining table was created to integrate with the building\u2019s circular structural pillar, accommodating more than ten people. The layout supports simultaneous activities while maintaining spatial continuity among occupants.<\/p>\n

The private areas were reorganized to improve both functionality and connection to the landscape. The master suite was relocated to a position with direct sea views and features slatted wood panels and cane-webbing fronts, allowing natural ventilation while reinforcing a coastal aesthetic. To accommodate extended family members, custom-built bunk beds were introduced, designed to support up to 300kg. The configuration places twin beds above double beds, optimizing spatial efficiency while maintaining visual consistency through the use of light fabrics and natural materials. Guest rooms were similarly designed to maximize occupancy without compromising comfort.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The sustainability of staying<\/p>\n

The project adopts a strategy of preservation rather than complete replacement. Original flooring and bathroom stone finishes were retained and restored. Materials removed during the renovation, including balcony frames and kitchen countertops, were donated for reuse, supporting a circular approach to material use. Lighting design prioritizes well-being, combining natural daylight through skylights with indirect artificial lighting. Integrated LED systems within cabinetry enable adaptable lighting conditions suited to different moments of use.<\/p>\n
