On Day 4 of the 31st Tri-U International Joint Seminar, six mixed groups of students from participating universities delivered their workshop presentations starting in the morning. With only about 24 hours of preparation time, the students made the most of the limited time to organize their ideas and finalize their presentations. Each group’s presentation reflected not only their creative ideas and values in response to the assigned themes, but also incorporated historical and cultural perspectives, all set against the backdrop of current global issues. The Q&A sessions with the judges revealed the depth of collaboration within each group, highlighting the intense cross-disciplinary discussions that had taken place. This workshop, which fosters significant student growth through collaborative learning, is one of the defining features of the Tri-U seminar.<\/p>\n

After the workshop presentations, participants went on an excursion to Ise City, where they experienced Japan’s rich history and culture. At the Jingu Kaikan. they enjoyed a traditional local meal before attending two insightful lectures related to the theme of “Disaster Management”.<\/p>\n

The first lecture, titled “Disaster Prevention and Flood Control at Ise Jingu” was delivered by Mr. Satoru OTOWA, Deputy Director of the Public Relations Office at the Jingu Administration Office. He spoke about the historical development of flood control and river management\uff0dessential to the growth of the city\uff0dand how Ise Jingu and the surrounding area have developed through repeated major earthquake.<\/p>\n

\u7d9a\u3044\u3066\u677e\u672c\u69d8\u304b\u3089\u306f\u3001\u300c\u5916\u5bae\u5468\u8fba\u306e\u7121\u96fb\u7dda\u5316\u4e8b\u696d\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u300d\u3068\u306e\u6f14\u984c\u3067\u3001\u6b74\u53f2\u7684\u306a\u8857\u4e26\u307f\u3084\u884c\u4e8b\u3092\u6709\u3059\u308b\u4f0a\u52e2\u5e02\u306b\u304a\u3044\u3066\u3001\u707d\u5bb3\u5bfe\u7b56\u3084\u89b3\u5149\u632f\u8208\u3092\u5ff5\u982d\u306b\u304a\u3044\u305f\u7121\u96fb\u7dda\u5316\u4e8b\u696d\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u3054\u7d39\u4ecb\u3044\u305f\u3060\u304d\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002
The second lecture, titled “Underground Power Line Project around Geku”, was given by Mr. Tappei MATSUMOTO, Chief Officer at the Ise Construction Office, Mie Prefecture. He introduced the city’s efforts to bury power lines in the Geku area, aiming to enhance disaster resilience and promote tourism, while preserving the historical landscape and cultural events of Ise.<\/p>\n

After the lecture, participants enjoyed a stroll through the charming streets of Okage Yokochi and Oharai-machi. Some had the rare opportunity to take part in a special Mikakiuchi prayer ceremony, offering a unique spiritual experience. The students made the most of their time\uff0dshopping for souvenirs and charms, sampling local delicacies, and soaking in the atmosphere. The group also visited the site of the underground power line construction near the Geku, gaining insight into local infrastructure efforts. Though brief, the excursion was rich in content and left a lasting impression. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Jingu Administration Office, Mie Prefecture and the Ise City for their generous support and cooperation throughout our visit.<\/p>\n

To conclude the day, all participants gathered for the closing ceremony and farewell party. During the ceremony, awards were presented for outstanding oral presentations and workshop contributions. Two students from Mie University, Wakana KINOSHITA (a fourth-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Bioresources) and Shogo MITSUMURA (a second-year master’s student from Graduate School of Bioresources) received the Presentation Award. Their excellent research presentations were highly praised, marking a proud achievement on an international stage.<\/p>\n

Hosted by Mie University for the first time in eight years, the 31st Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium concluded successfully, thanks to the generous support and cooperation of many individuals and organizations. For the participating students, the event provided not only an opportunity to deepen their academic knowledge, but also a valuable chance to broaden their international perspectives. The next seminar, the 32nd in the series, is scheduled to be held at Chiang Mai University in Thailand in 2026.
