Italy has a long tradition in motorcycle racing, boasting top manufacturers and legendary champions from past and present. It\u2019s no surprise that Dorna\u2019s CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, considers the country a prime example of MotoGP\u2019s reach.<\/p>\n
The Spanish executive took part in the Italian Motorcycling Federation (Federmoto) Council, where he met with president Giovanni Copioli. In an statement, Ezpeleta highlighted Italy\u2019s historic role in the World Championship:<\/p>\n
\u2013 Italy is the only nation in the world that has been present in the World Championship since its inception in 1949. This Council is an example of how Federmoto continues to work with the highest level of commitment. Italy is a model for all countries, not only in speed racing but also in other disciplines.<\/p>\n
With MotoGP expanding globally, implementing new promotional strategies and a revamped format since 2023, Ezpeleta sees Italy as a benchmark for the championship\u2019s reach: \u2018Personally, I hope that thanks to MotoGP\u2019s global growth, which aims to reach an increasingly wider audience, the championship will engage a broad spectrum of fans \u2013 not just motorsport enthusiasts. This is already happening in Italy, but it must happen worldwide\u2019.<\/p>\n
Italy has hosted two MotoGP rounds for several years (the Italian GP in Mugello and the San Marino GP in Misano). On the grid, six Italian riders are competing, including two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia.
