The savage waves claimed the lives of Delisa Fitri’s mother and sister, and even crushed her leg. 20 years on, she reflects on her perilous journey to get back on her feet.

Renowned scientist Professor Nazli Ismail explains the miraculous survival of the Rahmatullah Mosque that withstood the tsunami’s wrath. Having spent much of his childhood in the mosque, he reflects on how the tsunami brought a new wave of development to his hometown.

The documentary also explores the global humanitarian response to the disaster which brought NGOs and militaries from different corners of the world to Aceh, including Singapore. It also documents the tireless efforts of local heroes like Susi Pudijastuti, who risked everything to deliver essential supplies to isolated communities and aid fishermen in need. A powerful testament to the human spirit in the face of disaster.

00:00 The most powerful tsunami in recent history
02:16 What happened in Aceh
04:21 How tsunamis form
08:22 Delisa’s multiple amputations
12:00 The mosque that withstood the tsunami
16:36 Aceh’s history of tsunamis
21:53 International aid enters Aceh
26:24 The Indonesian military’s mammoth task
30:03 Managing overwhelming casualties
34:42 Hari Raya Haji , 1 month after the disaster
37:04 How ASEAN came together
40:09 How a seafood business became a crisis first responder
42:38 Delisa reflects on her experience, 20 years on

=========
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Stories of horror, hope and heroism in the wake of one of history’s deadliest natural disasters.
==================
#CNAInsider #TheWavesThatChangedUs #Indonesia #Tsunami #Aceh #IndianOcean #2004

For more, SUBSCRIBE to CNA INSIDER!
https://cna.asia/insideryoutubesub

Follow CNA INSIDER on:
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cnainsider/
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cnainsider/
Website: https://cna.asia/cnainsider

2004 Tsunami: How Indonesia Weathered Its Lasting Impact | The Waves That Changed Us – Part 1 In the wak

[395391
67,1217,68,1225,233
0":"post-2341942","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-breaking-news","8":"tag-japan","9":"tag-japan-breaking-news","10":"tag-japan-news","11":"tag-japan-today","12":"tag-233
["GET
