The first case of severe bird flu in a person has also been confirmed in Louisiana.<br \/>\nThe H5N1 virus is widespread in wild birds and can easily spread to commercial poultry and cattle. It has been detected in hundreds of dairy cattle herds this year and dozens of people nationwide.
