［ワシントン ２日 ロイター］ – ルビオ米国務長官は２日、イランに対する軍事作戦について、米軍は現時点で地上部隊を展開する態勢にないと述べた。
ルビオ長官は記者団に対し、トランプ大統領には地上部隊投入の選択肢があるとしながらも、地上部隊を投入せずに軍事作戦の目標を達成できると政権は見なしていると語った。
また、トランプ政権はイラン国民が現政権を打倒することを望んでいると言及。ただ、今回の軍事作戦の主な目的はイランの弾道ミサイル能力を破壊するとともに、イランが核兵器を保有できないようにすることだと改めて強調した。
このほか、中東情勢の緊迫化を受けた原油価格の高騰に対応するため、エネルギー価格の上昇を抑制する措置を講じると表明。「これは問題になる可能性があると予想していた」とし、ベセント財務長官とライト・エネルギー長官が３日に、事態を緩和するための段階的な取り組みを発表すると述べた。
