［ワシントン ２０日 ロイター］ – トランプ米大統領は２０日、米国が近くウクライナとの鉱物資源に関する協定に署名する見通しだと述べた。また、ロシアとウクライナの和平合意に向けた自身の取り組みについて、かなり順調に進んでいるという認識を示した。米国内における重要鉱物の生産拡大に向けた大統領令に署名した後、明らかにした。
トランプ氏は「ウクライナとロシアに関して、われわれは非常にうまくやっている。ウクライナとレアアース（希土類）に関する契約を近く締結しようとしている」と語った。
トランプ氏はロシアのウクライナ戦争終結を目指して今週行ったロシアのプーチン大統領とウクライナのゼレンスキー大統領との個別会談に言及した。
プーチン氏はウクライナのエネルギーインフラに対する攻撃を３０日間停止することで合意。ゼレンスキー氏も限定的な停戦を受け入れる意向を示した。トランプ氏が目指した３０日間の広範な停戦には至らなかった。
トランプ氏は「われわれは（戦争が）終わることを望んでおり、その点でかなりうまくやっていると思う」と述べ、戦争を終結させることに自信を示した。
ウクライナと米国は今月、ウクライナの重要鉱物資源開発に関する包括的協定を可能な限り早期に締結することで合意したと発表した。
トランプ氏は、この合意が米国のウクライナ支援に対する見返りになるとみている。
合意内容が以前の案から変更されたかどうかは明らかではない。以前の合意案では、ウクライナが求めていた安全の保証は明記されておらず、米国がウクライナの天然資源から生じる収益にアクセスできることになっていた。
ウクライナが所有する天然資源から得られる収益の５０％を、米国とウクライナが共同管理する基金に拠出することも想定されていた。
米政府高官は現行の鉱物協定案が以前の案とどう異なるのかという質問に対して、「より詳細かつ包括的」と述べるにとどめ、詳細には言及しなかった。
