[ワシントン ５日 ロイター] – バイデン米大統領は５日、トランプ次期大統領が出生地主義に基づく米国籍付与の廃止を目指していることを批判した。
トランプ氏は先月、ＮＢＣのインタビューで、両親の移民ステータスにかかわらず米国で生まれた者に市民権を与える出生地主義について、廃止する大統領令を就任初日に出す考えを示した。
バイデン氏はホワイトハウスで記者団に「憲法で定められた生得権を変更しようというのだ。この国で生まれたのに市民ではないのか。どうなっているんだ」と述べた。
政権移行手続きについては円滑に進んでいるようだとしつつ、トランプ氏のチーム内で問題があるようだとの見方を示した。
２０２１年１月６日の議会襲撃事件から４年を迎えるのを前に、トランプ氏が今でも民主主義への脅威だと思うか問われたのに対し、同氏が取った行動は「民主主義に対する真の脅威」だったと指摘。１月６日に起きたことは「書き換えられるべきではない」とし、「忘れるべきではない」と強調した。
