英下院で19日、最大野党・労働党のジェレミー・コービン党首の発言をめぐり、審議が中断した。与党・保守党はコービン氏がテリーザ・メイ首相を「ばかな女（stupid woman）」と呼んだと強く反発し、謝罪を求めたが、コービン氏は自分は「ばかな連中（stupid people）」と言ったのだと反論した。
この発言に先立ち、メイ首相はコービン氏と労働党のこれまでの動きを、イギリスのクリスマス風物詩の滑稽劇（パントマイム）になぞらえ、その定番のやりとりを使い挑発していた。
But Jeremy Corbyn did not look impressed, and although microphones did not pick up what he muttered in response, many commentators and MPs believe he mouthed: "Stupid woman".
