For the first time in three years, Fukuoka’s biggest annual festival, complete with marching bands and parades, is on! City officials are asking people to refrain from crowding along the streets, so why not watch our live stream instead? Dontaku, derived from the Dutch word Zondag (holiday), is one of the largest festivals in Japan, attracting two million spectators (pre-pandemic.) This year the event will be held on a reduced scale. On May 3 & 4, the event begins with the Hakata Matsubayashi procession, which has celebrated the new year for the last 840 years. Daytime performances on 16 stages follow that, and, in the evening, illuminated “Flower Cars” (decorated vehicles) roll through the streets. GWの福岡を大いに盛り上げる「博多どんたく」が、3年ぶりに開催される。オランダ語のZondag（休日）が語源とされる「博多どんたく」は、平時は2日間で200万人もの観客数を数える全国有数の祭りだけれど、今年は規模を縮小して開催される。幕開けは、840年もの歴史を有するどんたくの源流・博多松囃子（まつばやし）。馬に乗った三福神が稚児行列とともに2日間で150カ所以上もの商家や企業などをお祝いして廻ります。また、演舞台とよばれる市内17箇所に設けられる特設会場ではステージイベントが繰り広げられ、街中が祭りムードに染まる。詳しくはFukuoka Nowの博多どんたくガイド2022をチェックしてね！

この企画の動機
20年以上にわたって印刷媒体を月刊誌として発行してきたが、ビデオも媒体の一つとして取り組みことにした。大好きな九州をカメラ片手に散策することは楽しそうだしね。福岡・九州はまだ、海外での認知度は低いけれど、規模は小さくても世界への発信ができればと考えてる。作り込んだビデオではないから、ゆっくりリラックスして楽しんで。
