1月16日(日)2時54分、日本の岩手県に津波警報が発表されました。奄美群島・トカラ列島の津波警報発令中。甚大な被害も予想されます。
南太平洋のトンガ諸島で15日午後1時10分ごろ（日本時間）、大規模な火山噴火が起きた。トンガ気象庁によると、噴火したのは首都ヌクアロファから北に60キロ余り離れた海底火山。同庁は噴火直後に、約170の島からなるトンガ全域に津波警報を発令した。
オーストラリア気象局によると、ヌクアロファでは日本時間の15日午後1時半ごろ、約1・2メートルの津波を観測した。現地からの映像によると、市内に水が流れ込み、銀行などの建物の1階が水につかった。だが、現地は大規模に停電しているとの情報もあり、15日夜の時点では詳しい被害などは分かっていない。噴火を受け、ニュージーランドやフィジーなどの周辺国も津波警報を出した。

A tsunami warning was announced in Iwate Prefecture, Japan at 2:54 on Sunday, January 16th. A tsunami warning is being issued for the Amami Islands and the Tokara Islands. Great damage is also expected.
A large-scale volcanic eruption occurred in the Tonga Islands in the South Pacific Ocean at around 1:10 pm (Japan time) on the 15th. According to the Tonga Meteorological Agency, the eruption was a submarine volcano about 60 kilometers north of the capital Nuku’alofa. Immediately after the eruption, the agency issued a tsunami warning throughout Tonga, which consists of about 170 islands.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Nuku’alofa observed a tsunami of about 1.2 meters around 1:30 pm Japan time on the 15th. According to the video from the site, water flowed into the city and the first floor of buildings such as banks was submerged. However, there is information that there is a large-scale power outage at the site, and as of the night of the 15th, detailed damage is unknown. Following the eruption, neighboring countries such as New Zealand and Fiji also issued tsunami warnings.
