[ブリュッセル ９日 ロイター] – 欧州連合（ＥＵ）欧州委員会は９日、米メタ(META.O), opens new tabが対話アプリ「ワッツアップ」から他社の人工知能（ＡＩ）サービスを排除している疑いがあるとして、これを阻止する措置を講じる方針を同社に警告した。欧州委は、メタによる市場での支配的地位の乱用について調査を進めている。
メタは１月１５日、ワッツアップで自社の対話型ＡＩ「メタＡＩ」の使用のみを許可する施策を実施した。
発表によると、欧州委はＥＵ競争法（独占禁止法）に違反しているとの予備的見解を示す「異議告知書」をメタに送付し、競合企業に深刻かつ回復不能な損害を与えるのを防ぐ暫定措置を講じる方針を示した。暫定措置を実施するかどうかはメタの返答の内容などで判断するという。
欧州委のリベラ上級副委員長（競争政策担当）は声明で「支配的地位にあるＩＴ企業が不当に優位性を築くために、その支配力を違法に行使することを許してはならない。このためわれわれはメタに対する暫定措置の迅速な適用を検討している。調査が続く間、競合企業によるワッツアップへのアクセスを維持するためだ」と説明した。
一方、メタはＥＵが介入する理由はないと反論。ＡＩの選択肢は多くあり、人々はアプリストア、基本ソフト（ＯＳ）、機器、サイトなどからＡＩを利用できるとした上で、「欧州委はワッツアップ・ビジネスＡＰＩがこれらＡＩチャットボットの主要な提供手段だと誤って認識している」と主張した。
