[シドニー １８日 ロイター] – オーストラリアのアルバニージー首相は１８日、シドニー近郊のボンダイビーチで１４日にユダヤ教の祭りを祝うイベントで銃撃事件が起きたことを受け、ヘイトスピーチ（憎悪表現）対策を強化すると表明した。
アルバニージー氏はパレスチナ自治区ガザでの戦争開始後、豪在住のユダヤ人の多くから、反ユダヤ主義の高まりへの対策が不十分だと批判されてきた。
同氏は記者会見で、ヘイトスピーチや暴力を助長する人を訴追しやすくする法律の成立を目指すと表明。罰則を強化し、ビザ（査証）の取り消しや拒否を容易にするほか、ヘイトスピーチを展開する指導者が率いる組織を取り締まる体制を整備すると述べた。
政府は過去２年間、一貫して反ユダヤ主義を非難してきたとしている。ヘイトスピーチを犯罪とする法案を可決し、８月にはシドニーとメルボルンで起きた２件の反ユダヤ主義的事件をイラン政府が指示したとして、駐豪イラン大使に国外退去を通告した。
