[ワシントン ５日 ロイター] – 米国防総省は５日、コルビー政策担当次官による議会への情報提供が不十分だとする与野党議員の指摘に否定的な見解を示した。
４日に開かれた上院軍事委員会の公聴会では、一部議員がコルビー氏による議会への説明が不足していると批判。国防総省の事務方が時折トランプ大統領の政策を台無しにしているように見えるとの声も聞かれ、議会で同省への不満が広がっている様子が明らかになった。
共和党のサリバン議員は「ある人物（コルビー氏）からは返事をもらうことさえできない」と苦情を漏らした。
これに対して国防総省の報道官は「本省は議会との関係を重視しており、われわれは強固な国防を支えるために引き続き議会と協力して任務を果たしていきたい」と述べた。
さらに報道官は、コルビー氏のチームは機密、機密指定外双方の情報を議会に「数十回」にわたって伝えてきたと付け加えた。
複数の当局者によると、コルビー氏は５日中にサリバン議員と面会する予定だという。
コルビー氏のチームは国防総省で最も権限を有する部署で、ヘグセス長官への政策提言を取りまとめている。
