［ワシントン ２３日 ロイター］ – トランプ米政権が、アルゼンチン産牛肉の関税割当枠を４倍に拡大し、８万トンにする方針であることがわかった。ホワイトハウス当局者が２３日に明らかにした。記録的な高値となっている国内牛肉価格の引き下げを目的としている。
同当局者によると、短期的にはアルゼンチンからの牛肉輸入を拡大して価格を引き下げると同時に、畜産農家への新たな支援策を展開し、農家の保護にも取り組むという。
農務省、内務省、中小企業庁などは２２日に発表した計画の中で、連邦政府所有地での放牧拡大の検討や、一部の家畜プログラムへの支出拡大など、米国の牛の供給を増やす措置を講じると表明した。
ただエコノミストからは、この計画が価格を急速に引き下げる効果は薄いとの指摘が聞かれている。
これとは別に、ホワイトハウスのアンナ・ケリー報道官は、トランプ大統領は牧場主を守り、一般の米国民に経済的な支援を提供すると約束したと述べた。ブルック・ロリンズ農務長官もフォックス・ビジネス・ネットワークの番組で、政権は牛肉の消費者と牧場経営者の両方を支援するために取り組んでいると表明した。
アルゼンチンからの牛肉輸入拡大計画は、大統領選でトランプ氏を広く支持してきた畜産農家からの強い反発を受けている。
