[ロンドン/トロント ２１日 ロイター] – 英国、カナダ、オーストラリア、ポルトガルの４カ国は２１日、パレスチナを国家承認した。パレスチナ自治区ガザ紛争への不満が募っており、２国家解決を推進する狙いがある。これを受け、イスラエルは非難した。
西側４カ国はこれまでにパレスチナ国家を承認している１４０カ国以上と足並みをそろえた。
第二次世界大戦後、イスラエルが近代国家として誕生する際に大きな役割を果たしたことを考えると、英国の決定は特に象徴的だ。
スターマー英首相は「今日、パレスチナ人とイスラエル人の平和と２国家解決への希望を復活させるため、英国はパレスチナ国家を正式に承認する」と述べた。

「ガザにおける人為的な人道危機は、新たな深刻さに増している。イスラエル政府による容赦ない、激化するガザへの爆撃、ここ数週間の攻撃、飢餓と荒廃は全く容認できない」と語った。
フランスを含む他の国々も、今週ニューヨークで開催される国連総会で同様の行動を取る見通し。
イスラエルのネタニヤフ首相はこの動きを非難した。
「１０月７日の恐ろしい虐殺の後にパレスチナ国家を承認する指導者たちに明確なメッセージがある。あなた方はテロに莫大な報酬を与えている」とし、ガザ紛争の発端となった２０２３年のイスラム組織ハマスによるイスラエル奇襲に言及。「パレスチナ国家がヨルダン川以西に樹立されることはない」と述べた。
パレスチナ自治政府のアッバス議長は、承認は「パレスチナ国家がイスラエル国家と安全、平和、そして良き隣人として共存する」ための道を開く助けになるだろうと述べた。
