President Yoshihiko Noda, Secretary-General Junya Ogawa, and Policy Research Committee Chairman Kazuhiko Shigetoku received a courtesy visit at the party headquarters on 21 August from Min Hong-cheol, Vice-Chairman and Secretary-General of the South Korea-Japan Parliamentary League, who was visiting Japan from South Korea.
The meeting was attended by Koichi Takemasa, Next Minister for Foreign Affairs; Kensuke Onishi, Chairman of the Taxation Research Committee; Kentaro Genma, Director-General of the International Department; and Eishi Futori, Deputy Director-General of the International Department.
President Noda expressed his welcome to the visiting delegation, stating, ‘Each time we meet, our closeness deepens. We are committed to inter-party diplomacy and engage in exchanges with both the Democratic Party and the People Power Party. We wish to further strengthen these ties.’
He also referred to the interview with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung published in the Yomiuri Shimbun on the 21st, expressing his anticipation for the upcoming talks: ‘I was very pleased to sense the President’s desire to strengthen Japan-South Korea relations across a broad range of areas, including security, the economy, and people-to-people exchanges. I look forward to meeting with the President during his visit.’
Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Min emphasised, ‘Our Korea-Japan relations extend beyond private exchanges; they lead to a new future. We hope the upcoming Korea-Japan summit scheduled for the weekend will serve as an opportunity to advance friendly relations across all fields, including the economy, society, and culture. To that end, the Korea-Japan Parliamentary League and the Japan-Korea Parliamentary League wish to support government policies.’
Participating lawmakers exchanged views on Japan-Korea relations and agreed that dialogue for the future of both nations is crucial.
