[ブラジリア １１日 ロイター] – ブラジル最高裁は１１日、２０２２年の選挙での敗北後にクーデターを計画したとして有罪となったボルソナロ前大統領（７０）に禁錮２７年３月の刑を言い渡した。
民主主義を攻撃した罪で有罪判決を受けるのはブラジル大統領経験者として初めて。
判事５人のうち４人が、武装犯罪組織への参加、民主主義を暴力的に破壊しようとしたこと、クーデターを組織したこと、政府の財産や保護された文化財を損壊したことの５つの罪でボルソナロ氏に有罪判決を下した。
ボルソナロ氏の盟友であるトランプ米大統領は同氏を再び称賛し、判決は「恐ろしいこと」だと表現。「ブラジルにとって非常に悪いことだと思う」と語った。

ルビオ米国務長官は裁判所が「不当な判決を下した」とＸに投稿。「この魔女狩りに対し、米国は相応の対応をする」と付け加えた。
一方、ブラジル外務省はルビオ氏のコメントについて、「ブラジルの権威を攻撃し、事実と証拠を無視する」脅迫だと非難。ブラジルの民主主義が米国によって脅かされることはないと表明した。 もっと見る
ブラジルのルラ大統領も、ボルソナロ氏の有罪判決が確定する数時間前、地元テレビ局に対し、米国の新たな制裁を恐れていないと語った。
判決は全員一致ではなく、ルイス・フックス判事はボルソナロ氏に対する全ての罪状を無罪とし、裁判所の管轄権に疑問を呈した。
これにより、判決に対する異議申し立ての道が開かれ、裁判の終結が２６年１０月の大統領選挙に近づく可能性がある。ボルソナロ氏は選挙への出馬が禁止されているにもかかわらず、立候補すると繰り返し述べている。
