[ワシントン ８日 ロイター] – ヘグセス米国防長官は８日、米自治領プエルトリコ沖の軍艦上で水兵と海兵隊員に対し、訓練のためにカリブ海に派遣されたのではなく、重要な麻薬対策任務の「最前線」に送られたのだと語った。

米国防総省がＸに投稿した動画によると、ヘグセス氏は強襲揚陸艦「イオー・ジマ」上で「今やっていることは訓練ではない」と発言。「これは米国民の毒殺を終わらせるための重要な国益を代表する現実世界の演習だ」と述べた。

同氏は軍制服組トップのダン・ケイン統合参謀本部議長と共にサプライズでプエルトリコを訪問した。
