［ワシントン ２日 ロイター］ – 米軍は２日、カリブ海で違法薬物を積んでいたベネズエラ発の船舶を攻撃した。トランプ大統領が明らかにした。政権がカリブ海地域に軍艦を増派して以来、初めての作戦となる。
トランプ大統領はホワイトハウスで記者団に対し「米軍は数分間、麻薬を積んだ船舶を攻撃した。その船舶には大量の麻薬が積まれていた」と述べた。
米国には大量の麻薬がベネズエラから流入してきているとした上で、国防総省が近日中に詳細を発表すると述べた。
国防当局者は米軍が「麻薬船に対する精密攻撃」を実施したことを認めたが、攻撃がどのように行われたかや麻薬の種類、誰が乗っていたかなどの詳細は明かさず、「指定麻薬テロ組織が運航」する船だと述べるにとどめた。
ベネズエラ当局はコメント要請に応じていない。
米国は麻薬カルテルを取り締まるというトランプ大統領の公約を実行するため、カリブ海南部に大規模な海軍部隊を展開。ベネズエラとの間で緊張が高まっていた。
ルビオ国務長官は標的となった船舶がベネズエラを出航し、カリブ海南部で攻撃を受けたとＸに投稿。ルビオ氏は「致命的な攻撃」としたが、トランプ政権は死者の有無を明らかにしていない。
