Ulaanbaatar, August 20, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Environment and
Climate Change Batbaatar Bat received Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia Choi Jin-won on August 19,
2025.

At the outset of the meeting, Minister
Batbaatar expressed appreciation for the successful implementation of the
second phase of the Mongolian-Korean joint “Green Wall” project and for the Republic
of Korea’s continued support in launching the third phase. Minister Batbaatar emphasized that the project has made a significant contribution to combating desertification and yellow dust storms, and has elevated reforestation efforts, representing a tangible achievement in environmental restoration. The
Minister also noted the Republic of Korea’s contribution to Mongolia’s “Billions
of Trees” National Movement through the introduction of advanced technologies,
the implementation of projects with both public and private partners, and the
creation of new opportunities for cooperation.

The two sides exchanged views on strengthening
cooperation in climate change response, intentional weather modification, mine
rehabilitation, and reforms in environmental monitoring. Minister Batbaatar provided updates on preparations for COP17 and requested the Government of the Republic of Korea provide direct and indirect financial support for the costs of the
conference venue and facilities.

Mongolia is preparing to advance initiatives
at COP17 in the areas of international pasture and water management, ecosystem
restoration, and afforestation. Both sides agreed to deepen bilateral
cooperation and to support international activities, forums, and initiatives of
mutual interest.
