[ワシントン ２５日 ロイター] – トランプ米大統領は２５日、米国旗を燃やすなど、いかなる形であれ冒涜（ぼうとく）した者を訴追するよう司法長官に指示する大統領令に署名した。
トランプ氏は署名の際、「国旗を燃やせば禁固１年だ。仮釈放は認めない。（救済措置は）何もない」と述べた。
大統領令は司法長官に対し、国旗冒涜法に違反した者を「積極的に訴追」するよう指示している。また、連邦政府に対し国旗を冒涜した者に対するビザ（査証）や永住許可、帰化手続きの禁止・取り消しを求めている。
米最高裁は１９８９年、国旗の焼却や破損は言論の自由によって保護されるとの判断を下している。これに対し大統領令は、「差し迫った違法行為」を引き起こす恐れのある国旗冒涜は保護の対象外だと主張している。
