[ワシントン ７日 ロイター] – トランプ米大統領は７日、連邦政府の補助金支給の承認を厳格化する大統領令に署名した。支給決定はトランプ氏が指名した人物が評価する。
トランプ政権は、さまざまな理由により、教育機関などへの連邦政府資金を削減すると脅している。その理由には、米国の同盟国イスラエルのパレスチナ自治区ガザでの戦争に対する親パレスチナ派の抗議活動、気候変動への取り組み、トランスジェンダー政策、多様性・公平性・包括性（ＤＥＩ）プログラムなどが含まれる。
今回署名された大統領令は「裁量的補助金の対象は、大統領の政策優先事項を明らかに前進させるものでなければならない」と明記。補助金支給の決定には専門家が関与するとしている。
ＤＥＩプログラム、米国に不法滞在している移民への支援、トランスジェンダーへの取り組みを改めて批判し、連邦補助金は「公共の安全を損なったり、反米的な価値観を助長したりするような取り組み」に使われてはならないと定めた。
人権活動家は、連邦政府資金提供を巡る脅しについて、言論の自由や学問の自由を害するものであり、数十年の進歩を台無しにしかねない政治的干渉に等しいと懸念を示している。
