[コペンハーゲン／ブリュッセル ９日 ロイター] – ９日に発表された分析結果によると、欧州１２都市で７月２日までの１０日間に約２３００人が熱さに関連する原因で死亡した。欧州では先週まで猛烈な熱波が続いていた。
研究はインペリアル・カレッジ・ロンドンとロンドン衛生熱帯医学大学院の科学者らが行った。この期間に西欧地域の大半が猛暑に見舞われ、スペインでは気温が４０度を超えたほか、フランスで森林火災が発生した。
２３００人のうち、１５００人は気候変動で熱波が深刻化したことに起因する死亡だったという。
インペリアル・カレッジ・ロンドンの研究者ベン・クラーク博士は、「気候変動のため気温が本来より大幅に上昇し、はるかに危険な状況を生み出している」と述べた。
研究はバルセロナ、マドリード、ロンドン、ミラノを含む１２都市を対象とした。これらの都市は気候変動により熱波の気温が最大４度上昇しているという。
