［ブリュッセル ４日 ロイター］ – 欧州連合（ＥＵ）の欧州委員会がルクセンブルクの通信衛星大手ＳＥＳ(SESFg.LU), opens new tabによる３１億ドルの米同業インテルサット買収計画を承認する方針を固めた。事情に詳しい複数の関係者によると、欧州委は競争上の懸念がないと判断し、是正措置を求めずに承認する見通しだ。
欧州委は１０日までに最終判断を下すとみられる。ロイターの取材に欧州委もＳＥＳもコメントを控えた。英競争当局は先週、条件を付けずに承認済みだ。
合併により、米実業家イーロン・マスク氏が率いる米スペースＸの衛星通信サービス「スターリンク」に対抗しうる大手企業が欧州で誕生する。ＳＥＳは米アマゾン・ドット・コム(AMZN.O), opens new tabの高速インターネットサービス「プロジェクト・カイパー」との競争優位性の確保も目指し、他の欧州衛星企業との連携を通じて事業規模を拡大していく方針だ。
ＳＥＳによる買収計画は、ＥＵが米企業依存を減らし、衛星通信分野で戦略的な自立を目指す動きを強める中で浮上した。米国では現在、連邦通信委員会（ＦＣＣ）と司法省が同計画を審査している。
