[ワシントン ３日 ロイター] – 米ホワイトハウス当局者は３日、韓国大統領選挙について公正だったと評価した上で、中国の干渉に懸念を示した。
同当局者は「米韓同盟は揺るぎない。韓国は自由で公正な選挙を実施したが、米国は世界の民主主義国家における中国の干渉と影響力について引き続き懸念し、反対している」と述べた。
３日投開票の韓国大統領選では革新系最大野党「共に民主党」の李在明前代表が勝利し、大統領に就任した。 もっと見る
当局者は中国の干渉について詳細には言及せず、韓国大統領選と直接結びつけることもしなかった。しかしここ数日、トランプ大統領の朋友らは、韓国が中国との関係と米国との関係のバランスを取る必要性を訴える李氏を批判している。
トランプ氏に近い極右活動家のローラ・ルーマー氏は３日、「共産主義者が韓国を支配し、大統領選で勝利した」とＸに投稿した。
中国外務省の報道官は、ホワイトハウスのコメントについて質問を受け、中国政府が他国の内政に干渉することは絶対にないと発言。米政府は自らの行動を中国に投影してはならないとし「中韓関係に問題の種をまくのをやめる」よう求めた。
ルビオ国務長官は李氏の勝利を祝福する声明を発表し、ホワイトハウス当局者と同様に両国の同盟関係は揺るぎないと述べた。中国への懸念については言及しなかった。
ルビオ氏はまた、「地域の安全保障を強化し、経済的な耐性を高め、共通の民主主義原則を守るため」、米韓日３カ国の協力を引き続き深化させていくとも述べた。
