[ブリュッセル １１日 ロイター] – １月から欧州連合（ＥＵ）議長国となるポーランドのドマンスキ財務相は記者団に対し、任期中はＥＵとしての防衛費の共同調達が優先課題になるとの認識を示した。ウクライナ戦争に加え、北大西洋条約機構（ＮＡＴＯ）に懐疑的なトランプ氏が米大統領に返り咲くことへの警戒感が背景にある。
ドマンスキ氏は「欧州は東方、すなわちロシアからの脅威を深刻に受け止める必要がある。平常運転には戻れない。多くの事が様変わりした」と述べ、ＥＵ加盟国ごとに防衛費についての政策が分かれている現状を変え、共同のアプローチが必要だとの考えを示した。
「他国の財務相らと話したところ、われわれはもっと欧州として行動する必要があるとの見解に幅広い支持があることが分かった」と語った。
ロシアによるウクライナ侵攻に加え、欧州諸国が防衛支出を国内総生産（ＧＤＰ）の少なくとも２％以上に増やさなければ攻撃されても欧州の国を助けないとするトランプ次期米大統領の脅しを背景に、ＥＵ諸国は防衛支出の拡大を急いでいる。
欧州委員会の推計では、ＥＵ諸国は今後１０年間で防衛強化に５０００億ユーロ（５２５０億ドル）以上の経費が必要となる。ＥＵはこうした課題に対処するため、防衛担当の欧州委員ポストを新設した。
ＥＵは来年４月にワルシャワで開催する財務相会議で、防衛費の調達方式について協議する予定だ。
