[ブリュッセル ２５日 ロイター] – 欧州市民の間で欧州連合（ＥＵ）への支持が過去最高に上ったことが、２５日に公表されたユーロバロメーターの調査で明らかになった。
調査は１月と２月にＥＵ加盟２７カ国の全てで２万６３５４人との面談で実施。自国がＥＵ加盟の恩恵を享受していると考える人が全体の７４％と、この質問を開始した１９８３年以降で最も高くなった。
欧州では近年、ロシアがウクライナの次にＥＵ加盟国へ侵攻するのではないかとの懸念や、トランプ米政権の下で北大西洋条約機構（ＮＡＴＯ）を通じた米国による欧州防衛の先行きが不確実になったとの見方が広がっている。
このためユーロバロメーターによると、ＥＵ加盟をメリットと受け止める主な理由も変化。「平和維持と安全保障強化」を挙げた向きが昨年夏から３ポイント増えて３５％と第１位になった一方「加盟各国との協力関係改善」は３４％で２ポイント低下した。
欧州市民にとって最大の懸念は引き続き経済状況だった。向こう５年で生活水準が悪化すると予想したのは３３％と昨年半ばから７ポイント増加し、４３％がＥＵに物価対策へ力を注いでほしいと強く要望している。
欧州企業が中国勢や米国勢との厳しい競争に直面していることもあり、ＥＵの産業競争力に不安を感じると答えた人は約３３％と過去１年で５ポイント増加した。
