New California bill aims to ensure wildfire victims have access to mental health services

Much has been discussed about the physical toll the wildfires have taken on impacted Southern California communities, but what about the emotional toll? What if someone impacted by the fires needs to seek emotional support? That’s where AB 1032 comes in.

AB 1032 requires health care service plans to reimburse/cover an eligible wildfire victim for up to 12 annual visits per year with a licensed behavioral health provider. The legislation will apply in counties where a local or state emergency has been declared due to wildfires. AB 1032 contains an urgency clause to take effect immediately.
