Torrential rains on February 15th caused severe flash flooding in Kentucky and Tennessee, prompting Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear to declare a state of emergency on February 14th. Flash flood warnings were issued for large areas of central and southern Kentucky, with dozens of highways flooded and some residents stranded. Eyewitness footage showed flood waters rising quickly in Madison County, Kentucky, with waters allegedly rising one foot under two minutes. The National Weather Service warned of a “particularly dangerous” flash flood event, with flash flooding expected to continue into Sunday, February 16th, before snowfall ¹.
