Live aerials over the San Francisco Bay area searching for possible damage, after a powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Northern California, and a tsunami warning was issued.
A magnitude-7.0 earthquake off the coast of Northern California has triggered tsunami warnings across a swath of the US West Coast.
The quake was detected 62 miles (99 kilometers) west-southwest of the city of Ferndale at 10:44 am local time, according to the US Geological Survey. A tsunami warning is now in effect for Eureka, more than 250 miles north of San Francisco, as well as from the central Oregon coast to just north of Santa Cruz, California.
The 7.0-magnitude quake was recorded at a depth of just 10 kilometers (six miles), almost 100 kilometers west-southwest of Ferndale, according to the United States Geological Survey.

“Based on preliminary earthquake parameters… hazardous tsunami are possible for coasts located within 300 KM of the earthquake epicenter,” said a warning issued by the National Weather Service’s Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu.

The warning noted that no areas had yet experienced any waves, but that anyone near a coastline should be alert to the possibility of danger.
