  1. The oldest recorded train disaster is the Sonning Cutting Railway Accident in England on December 24, 1841. A Great Western Railway train derailed near Reading, killing nine people and injuring 16. This first major railway accident highlighted the need for early rail safety improvements.

  2. Im american so I could be wrong but when I think of Germany and trains I definitely dont think of punctuality. Although that may have occurred, it was far from the forefront of anybodies mind. Especially at the time.

  3. 1:52 this symbol on the wall makes me so uncomfortable. It was used during the Weimarer Republik and during the reign of the Nazis. Why is it in this video about an accident that happened in 98 when it was the „deutsche Bahn“?

  4. I challenge you to take a train to Berlin that isn't delayed. Always on time, what a lie.

  6. You got the wheels wrong. The wheels had a metal core, and rubber mid layer, and a metal outer layer. It was the metal outer layer that broke off and entered the cabin.

  7. These poor victims 😞 was just collateral damage in which the powers that be involve us all 😢. Those who step out of line-out of the gene pool.

  8. 2:59 the train wheels didn't have rubber on the outside.
they had a ring but it was made out of metal

  9. The very first railway disaster happened in England as the first train come out someone’s foot got stuck and ran over by train

  10. The common factor in all cases like these are the people who should be in trouble for negligence always seem to skate by with a slap on the wrist. Yet if I were to go steal some bread from the store I’d go to jail.

  11. The train (power head) actually got automatically braked and the train driver tried do get the power running again because he did not notice anything and thought it was a technical error, but the train dispatcher noticed that only the power head drove through and told the driver the sad news.

  12. I love how the power cars’s pantograph is not connected to anything and that there are 16 axles (aka 4 bogeys) as well.

  13. The distance between Munich and Eschede is about 650 km – hardly a one hour ride. Also, not really a commute. The author initially probably thought of Hanover, the last stop before the accident.

  14. you basically cut an entire episode of seconds from disaster down to size. lol.

  15. Germans are the smartest and most efficient race in the world. We´ll get pack our proud. Wir deutschen sind die schlauste und effizienteste Nation der Welt und wir werden uns unseren Stolz zurückholen.

  16. 9:05 ICE 787 wouldnt ram into ICE 884, if they were on schedule, because of the Signal distance and Safety feature LZB
"Linienzugbeeinflussung" (Line influence), short LZB is required, when going over a speed of 100mph / 160kmh

  17. Good luck travelling in less than an hour from Munich to Enschede😂. Those ICEs aint running at 800kmh😂. So much disinformation contained here.

  18. Eschede is not a region in Eastern Germany. Its a village in Northern Germany in the South of the region of Lüneburger Heide.

  19. A few points are wrong in this video. German trains aren't punctual. Still this is a very tragic disaster and it did change rail travel a lot in Germany.

  20. Well …… that Video is Ok. Greeting from Germany. I don't understand until today that sadly no one immediate trigger the emergency break on ts own responsible. I assume with respect to my own shool memories the scientific and technological education on Shool ist to less dense and to poor.
