Ubisoft all had to do was create another fictional protagonist, just like all other assassin's creed that ever existed. But no, but instead they gaslighted with all the billions of dollars they could spend to make Yasuke into Gaysuke. Tbh, I wouldn't really minded with all the changes, but making Yasuke into a gay character despite having no factual evidence that he was gay is the last straw for me, AC mirage will be the last ever AC franchise I would ever buy.
I really hope this is the nail in the coffin for Ubi.

Ubisoft could've avoided this by just creating a fictional Japanese character for the same role but they just wanted to capitalise on Yasuke because he is very marketable to the western audience. Good riddance I say.

A black, gay, fictional samurai… SMH. Ubisoft deserves every ounce of criticism they receive and the attendant loss in profits on this game. It was such an easily avoidable controversy, but once again DEI wins the day. Since corporate mandates for diversity in content are likely tied to their funding, they'll continue to make these braindead decisions in perpetuity. I wonder if there were any voices of reason in the story design phase who objected at all.
This controversy is 100% not done with him. This should lead to him losing his job, his works being shamed and removed. The only thing that would complete this would be Japan revoking his visa for this.

this game is not going to sell amazingly well as has been seen with their preorders dropping off a cliff and altering history is a HUGE thing, not to be seen like its nothing as your conclusion shows. Altering history is a very big deal especially for the Japanese who are going to prosecute Lockley in due course and will likely do the same to Ubisoft once the game is released, so they can find out what is being manipulated. Don't forget Egypt are suing Netflix for about 350 million or more for what they done with Cleoptra. This is by no means a minor issue and ubisoft is not going to sell well with this game at all, Japan is hugely loved by the masses and no one likes DEI, this whole thing has backfired big time and with star wars outlaws becoming a fiasco also, ubisoft could go bankrupt should both these games fail. Since investors have already pulled out of the company and shares have dropped off the planet
As someone who considers themselves conservative and is usually quite angry with western society messing with other cultures representation by changing certain historical figures to be a race they weren’t or by switching a characters race…I find this whole Yasuke frustration quite useless. We know Yasuke was a real person, a lot of sources believe him to have been a samurai. The only thing that’s kinda ridiculous is Ubisoft claiming Assassins creed is meant to showcase real historical individuals, which it often does but it always does so in a very creative light. It’s more a single line of false advertising that is the only thing deserving of any form of anger or criticism. And even then…who wants to spend the energy getting mad at false advertising?
I miss the days when video game stories actually had depth and were not just about propagating racial ideology to appease wealthy interest groups. Academia and Hollywood have already lost all integrity, we can’t let the entire gaming branch go down too.

Gonna point out smsll detail, nioh 2 is a bad example of him popping up since its by a Japanese dev, and about the sengoku period, yasuke shows up for literally a cutscenes and a bit and that boss fight is one of many frienly duels with other historical characters that you can have. He literally shows up where he would anyeay in history nothing more nothing less… Well, he is also in that vein the axe weapon trainer but thats also not really a thing of note.

First, he did not kill himself after his master Oda (whom he closely followed) was defeated in battle in which he was involved (it’s an honor to kill yourself after being defeated as a samurai); second, he was returned to the Jesuit proves that the enemy didn’t think he was important enough to be a threat (not a recognized key person in Oda’s political circle). He was most likely considered a servant viewed like a loved eagle or horse by Oda for entertainment. Yes, according to Oda’s personalities, he liked special exotic creatures and he liked to collect them. That’s just historical facts.

I think UBI should not select samurai as a protagonist, because samurai mentality does not match assassin work at all. UBI should know a samurai openly hanging out with an assasin is a disgrace in itself. In other word, any feudal lord cannot continue to hire the protagonist samurai who openly takes part in assassinations over and over again. As a result the identity of the samurai protagonist gets messed up. The Japanese would not accept that he is acting properly as a samurai in the trailer.
