In a match with prodigious momentum shifts, a battle of two fast-rising, big-hitting future stars, Naomi Osaka of Japan, the 19th seed, takes on Aryna Sabalenka. Both players made important breakthroughs on tour that year. In March, Osaka won one of the most prestigious tournaments outside a major, the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Sabalenka snatched her first WTA title the week before the US Open, at the Connecticut Open in New Haven. With both players demonstrating the firepower that has catapulted them up the rankings, who can hold their nerve and reach a first career quarterfinal at a Slam?

  1. Kind of funny how Sabalenka throws her racquet at the end (that was scary) but congratulates Osaka nicely.

  3. To be honest i didn't watch this match back then coz i thought it was just another luck that both of them are in the semis like many other players. But since naomi has now won 4 major grand slams and beating serena trice i always come back to see this highlight. She's my top fav now. I really2 love this girl.

  4. Look how skinny Naomi was then. She must have gotten in the weight room.

  5. If you think she is depressed here wait until she wins the final! That was the day Serena Williams yet again proves that she is the most unsportsmanlike player in the history of tennis!

  6. Both of these so-called stars imploded this week by an 18 yo Leylah Fernandez a Filipina now residing in Canada ! They both lost to Leylah !

  7. I hope Naomi can come this form of hers. She used to run to return the ball but now she’s just relying to her power.

  8. watching this to see how Sabalenka cracked under pressure. Serving at 4-5, she double faulted twice. Same scenario when she played Leyla, double faulting twice to give Leyla match points too. Talk about mental weakness in her game, just brute hitting but no mental will to win.

  9. I don't care, I could watch Naomi any day of the week. Her reserve and will are incredible and it has been a shame that she has had so many injuries because she would be killing it if she played on a regular basis. But I biased, she is my absolute favorite.

  10. Sabalenka, what a beast attitude and behaved like a diva. In contrast,
Naomi is like a angel and humble. Sabalenka had learned a lot from this game.
