I think that Naomi Osaka's game does not have many variations and the power of her shot no longer surprises the players opposite. unfortunately against the top 10 or players who return the ball like mertens naomi will have no chance.
I don't know what to make of Osaka anymore 😮😮😮 one step forward and the next day three steps backwards. Horrible performance 😮😮😮. Mertens is not win more than five games against Guaff.
I watched Sabalenka the biggest hitter on the WTA Tour use drop shots to win a match that she should have lost. I saw Coco use drop shots in her last match when her forehand was off. The days of going flat out against every player are over. The players are just to good to be dominated by a person that just hits everything as hard as they can.
Someone please introduce Naomi Oaska to the drop shot. It's frustrating to watch a player as talented as Oaska continue to make the same mistakes. She plays like a better version of the ultimate one dimensional player Camille Gorgi. Mertens was playing 10 feet behind the baseline. I only watched the first set because I knew Oaska would lose after that.

What surprises me is not that Mertens won, it is Osaka has not gone berserk yet.

Naomi should loose 5 pounds and she ‘d be a contender for Top 10 in not Top 5.
Will be interesting to see if Naomi has the guts to show her face at Roland Garros and Wimbledon after her embarrassing debacles and where she is no match for the best players.

Naomi Osaka hasn't won a title since the 2021 Australian Open. By getting to the 3rd round in Indian Wells is a great effort for Osaka. So much depth in women's tennis now.
All you people so wisely dumping on Osaka…. She had a baby, and has had only 8 matches before this tournament. Yes, she is overweight and out of shape. Give her a few more months. Sheesh. If she can't get into the top 20 by the end of the year, THEN you will have something to talk about.
Well done Mertens, although I am a fan of Osaka, Mertens succeeded in winning thanks to her defensive style, relying primarily on defending against Osaka's strong deep balls in the corners of the field and then transitioning to a sudden attack. Imagine all the double faults in serving, and yet she managed to win. As for the champion Osaka, you were in a good mental state. You are on the way to a comeback, and I hope you will win the Grand Slam this year.

Elise really demonstrates a foolproof performance with her self-reliance. She looks unlucky due to the demanding bracket of the draw projection of this WTA tourney. It is never easy to contend more perseverant and steadfast against such a powerful competitor. Her prowess and quality have proven in this gruelling appearance. It indicates that she will literally keep remaining at the zenith of her profession in order to observe her stability.
As to Naomi Osaka, Japanese tennis competitor will get ready to compete in the other WTA tournaments as well as grand slam organizations and events. She will be far more superior and comanding than the predictions and conjectures in the forthcoming periods.

No surprises here. Mertens has great "hands", uses techniques and strokes like the lob and the "moonball", f.e., to throw off the opponent's rhythm and explore their physical and technical weaknesses and on a good day, can really play deep and put up a great defensive game against pretty much anyone.
Very smart and technical player. A Kim Clijsters protégé. One of my favorites to watch, no doubt.

Elise is such an intelligent player. She took time away from Naomi and made her move side by side. As an opponent you don't want her to dictate the rallies or else it'll be curtains for you before you even realise.
