“Perfect Days” was screened in the competition section of the 76th Cannes Film Festival in 2023, where Koji Yakusho won the Best Actor Award.
In this movie, a middle-aged man named Hirayama, played by Koji Yakusho, lives alone in a cheap apartment in Oshiage, overlooking the Sky Tree. Every morning, he wakes up in the dark and drives his wagon to work, heading to public toilets in Shibuya, the unique toilets built as part of the “The Tokyo Toilet” project. And he carefully refines every nook and cranny one after another.

!n this video I tried to answer the next question. The question is: How does the quality of service and the cleanliness of public places that Director Wm Wim Wenders was impressed and inspired by in Japan connect with the content of the film “Perfect Days”? In other words, how does the high quality of Japanese services and the cleanliness of public places connect with Hirayama’s way of life?
