Shizuku Tsukishima is a bit of a book-worm, spending her last summer vacation in junior high school reading and translating popular foreign music into Japanese. With aspirations to one day become a writer, Shizuku can’t help but notice that the name Seiji Amasawa appears on every one of the books she borrows from the library.

Through a series of curious and magical incidents, she comes to meet Seiji and discovers he has dreams of becoming a famous violin maker in Italy. While their life-long goals pull them in two different directions, Shizuku and Seiji are determined to remain true to their strong feelings for one another.

  1. This is one of the few Ghibli films I never seen and I just finished it and I have to say I was slightly disappointed. I was going in expecting there was going to be an epic adventure of a girl getting transported to a cat world but it was basically a slice of life, romantic story. No hate to the people who enjoy those genres but the first Ghibli films I watched growing up were Totoro, Kiki, Spirited Away, and Ponyo. I always knew Ghibli as a studio who made epic adventures and that's just what I like, never was in to realistic stories, I like getting immersed in to whimsical adventures. But it wasn't a bad film at all, just kind of boring to me.

  2. ちょうど自分が中1くらいの時に公開された映画だ。あれからもう30年近く経つんだな。。

  3. I know, im not seiji, still have no goal, no passion, but when i find one, ill take the challenges, face bumpy roads, get loneliness, and achieve the one, although not perfect, i will burnish it, keep grinding like Shizuku did.

  4. Seiji felt surreal, her whole experience felt surreal. As if it all happened in her head, a way of her to find out what she likes, her experience inspired by all the books she's read. This movie made me uncover a new feelin.

  5. es una mierda pinchada en un palo de aluminio que encima da cancer de mama lo he visto en internet

  6. The best moments for me:

    1. When Shisuko sang while Seiji was playing violin, then the whole team came along.

-I was giggling the whole time 🤗

    2. The end credits.

    – can't describe exactly but it was really heartwarming

  7. First time i watch this i only perceived it as romantic but when i watched it as an adult i realized how relatable it was specially on the knowing your purpose or what to do with your life dialogues.

  8. It will always be my favorite romance anime cause it not only has shows teen love but also nonchalantly talks about importance to discover your purpose

  9. I love this movie. It’s a very beautiful movie, I watched it 2 times, but the 2nd time I roasted the characters at my friend 😂 ( except Seiji’s Grandpa and the musicians and Suzuku’s family )

  10. The visuals and themes in this film make me cry, its what my good dreams look and feel like.

  11. Im just her age now and watching this movie again made me cry. Grandpa’s word was so heartwarming, I definetely needed that words. Also it meant a lot as someone who grew up without any grandparents

  12. This movie was so lovely and the ending was good too🥀🥀🥀✨✨✨,,it had given me the vintage look, and i really enjoyed the view in the movie, they were like made for eachother type, everything was so nostalgic,,loved this movie…❤️✨💞

  13. 神社とか平安貴族が踊るときのあのヴーっというかビーって音、絶望でお腹がくだる下痢の音だってさっさと知ってた

  14. The movie is simplisctaly beautiful.
The music is soothing, and the world-building of Japan was vividly colorful.

    The message hits home

  16. I'll always cherish this film in my heart for being the best experience I ever had with any film.

  17. Please sign the petition against the demolition of the Meguro Ward Residents Center Park Pool Art Museum in one building #Meguro Ward against 70m high-rise building Spread the word to neighboring ward residents! Stop the decision of the ward! We demand the ward mayor to withdraw the decision!

  18. This movie is so beautiful. There’ll probably never be another movie like it. I think the only reason it’s overshadowed by other Ghibli movies is because it doesn’t have a fantasy plot like a lot of other Ghibli movies. It doesn’t need a fantasy story to be great.
