  1. One of yours most hilarious videos 😂😂 but on other hand can’t believe some of the people still don’t get this !

  2. if it's a straight sugar mash there is no methanol because it doesn't comes from cellulose as in wood or the husk of a grain. Methanol is called also wood alcohol. No hangover please.

  3. You would have made a great high school Chemistry teacher. I might have even gotten better than a C average in high school if the inspiration and guidance you provide was there. I got straight A's in college after serving in the Marine Corps after I inspired myself to be the best I could be. Semper Fidelis!

  4. You are a joy to watch! GREAT Videos! You are a GREAT Teacher! THANK YOU George! Please keep making videos! 🙂

  5. Hi,just found your site,, it looks fun and full of truths, what was your profession before becoming a YouTube instructor, thxs for trying to chase away the bogeyman,,, gb

  6. What are your thoughts on the dangers of consuming excess methanol from apple jack? Is methanol poisoning even possible because of the presence of high amounts of ethanol?

  7. You can absolutely go blind drinking moonshine (attention getter)… Buuut that's only from one of those greedy moonshiners who go buy a bunch of cheap methanol from the hardware store and mix it in their batch to make a few extra jars to sell. If nobody goes out and buys methanol to add to your batch, you're going to be just fine. An old veterinarian kept a bottle of everclear in his office in case a dog drank methanol -in the form of antifreeze usually. Pour ethanol down their throat to save their life. Those dirty moonshiners adding methanol try to add just enough ethanol to their store bought methanol to keep you from suffering the consequences of drinking methanol. Trust your source of shine or make it yourself. Regardless, if it's legit shine, then you won't go blind.

  8. Methanol comes out the whole run but is heaviest at the start of the run (pot still). But methanol is not a problem unless you add it intentional. You would drink wine or beer so why worry about brandy or whiskey if you discard foreshots, take heads and tails cuts? You've reduced the methanol compared to the base spirit. Your average glass of OJ has many times more methanol then your whiskey so stop worrying about it! Besides the cure for methanol poisoning is ethanol!

Stop worrying about prohibition tampering of spirits where people laced the spirits with all kinds of things to make the "liquor" go further. Do a ferment, distill it and be happy!

  9. This is not correct please look into relative volatility of methanol in an ethanol water mixture. Methanol is less volatile then ethanol when the charge is below 35-40% abv… So methanol doesnt distill off at the beginning of the first distillation. It actually comes off at the middle to end of the run if the charge is below 35%abv

  10. Hi, I so a video on you tube distilling fruit to brandy. The setup on collecting and separating the methanol from the alcohol looked good. At the collection end they had a clear bottle half filled with water with a funnel and mesh inside the funnel. They placed that bottle in a 3 gallon container.
The still started to produce, and in the bottle, the water stayed on the bottom then methanol above the water and the ethanol stayed on top of the methanol, So the bottle was over flowing ethanol in to the 3 gallon container. It was something to see, as you can clearly see the methanol. If you haven't seen it then i can get you the link.

  11. Hi George,

I watched an episode of bearded and bored (your buddy as I understand) that dealt with freeze concentration of cider to produce Applejack.

In that episode, he cautioned that with the methanol still present, but concentrated, it would be easy to imbibe too much of that methanol and produce a nasty headache, blindness, etc.

Could the Applejack be purified by running the Applejack to a temperature of 160 and holding it there until the methanol boiled off? In this case, the consumable product would still be the liquid in the pot, just purified by heating it thereby leaving all of the flavor characteristics, without the risk of apple palsy.

I imagine the boiling off wouldn't need to be in a still, since you would only be trying to get rid of and not collect the methanol.

Thoughts? A possible collaboration with bearded? Or completely erroneous?

  12. (2:13) No !
Don't get rid of your methanol.
It's a versatile solvent with many, many uses.
    Save it up !
    That's what I do.

  13. Methanol is deadly, so, it is important to get rid of it. Mash produces much more ethanol and methanol than wine or beer, also, we do not distill wine or beer. Mash is distilled. so we start off with 60 proof or more.. wine or beer stays under 12%

  14. Hey George,
Hope this fine you well,Got a question.. if I remove the ethanol from the batch ,can you still get a hangover from it? Hope that this is not to dumb question.

  15. How can I determine how much Methanol is inside my mash? Sure, in industrial beer or whine there is quality assurance, but can't it be that my mash has (a lot) more methanol than beer or whine?
