It’s the end of the year that gifted us the “in bloom” album so what better way to celebrate than updating my translations with ‘Saigo no hanabi’ !!

Sorry it took so long to update, but know that I’m still making these~ This is one of my favorite songs of “in bloom” and I find it the most fitting to end both the album and this filled with Soma’s music year!

Some notes;
1) “Betelgeuse” is a star in the constellation of Orion. The special thing about this star and probably the reason why it was chosen here is its mysterious -temporary- dimming incident: ‘Starting in October 2019, Betelgeuse began to dim noticeably (…) By 22 February 2020, Betelgeuse stopped dimming and started to brighten again. [Wikipedia]
2) I was wondering about that “feeling like a grapefruit” part ever since I read it but one day we had this Reading assignment for japanese class and it was about Yoko Ono (artist, singer, songwriter, John Lennon’s wife) who has written ‘an artist’s book’ called “Grapefruit”. I looked a bit more into it and it seems like this word ‘was chosen as title because Ono believed the grapefruit to be a hybrid of an orange and a lemon, and thus a reflection of herself as “a spiritual hybrid”‘ [Wikipedia]
Of course I don’t know if Soma is referencing this here or if that’s where he got this line inspired from but thought it was nice to mention.
3) トリップしている (torippu shiteiru)
lit. ‘going on a trip’ this phrase is used to describe the state of being under the influence of drugs and thus the ‘getting high’ I decided to use here. However, I found that it’s also used to describe “feelings of restlessness”, “feeling excited”, “being in an uncontrollable state”, “being in an emotional state”.

That’s all for this song! Thank you so much for watching and reading this, shares are always appreciated and I hope you all have a wonderful year ahead accompanied by Soma’s music♡
