In the land of Earthsea, crops are failing and livestock dying. Two dragons appear from the storm clouds and devour each other – an omen of impending disaster. The balance of the world is in peril of tearing apart.

In his search for the cause of this encroaching catastrophe, the Archmage Ged, the greatest of wizards, meets Arren, exiled Prince of Enlad, in flight from a nameless Shadow. They journey through ruined landscapes to Hort Town – a city where blank citizens deal only in fake goods, slaves are traded and addicts wander the dangerous streets – and cross paths with Therru, an orphan girl with a fire-scarred face. Ged learns that the wizard Cob, in his search for eternal life, is preparing to open the door between the realms of the living and the dead. An old and defeated adversary, Cob has sworn to take terrible revenge on Ged.

  1. At least we can officially say it's not the worst Ghibli movie anymore with Earwig And The Witch existing.

  2. I will definitely watch this, because it is SG. But why does everyone who makes the characters from this book (Le Guin's Tales from Earthsea) white or pale skin colored. She very, very specifically depicts the people of the archipelago as dark skinned. Only one race of people in these books is pale skinned. And even they aren't really that pale. Just saying.

  3. so you all know that this was completely based off if Ursula LeGuin's book series The Earthsea Quartet right?? he didnt even credit her and its completely her entire story copied. He added nothing of his own

  4. Why y'all always whitewash every story based on lost knowledge. It's just so annoying. The atmosphere was as such you couldnt be out without dark skin or clothes covering you. I'm over ghibli period

  5. It may not be a masterpiece on par with the best Studio Ghibli has to offer but I still thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

  6. oh boy, that script is just terrible. The visuals from the cities were great, but I couldnt watch the whole film.
I find it hard to believe that Gorō was 39 when he released this…

  7. Though this may be a good movie stand alone (i watched it years back, but it didn't stick), I must say this trailer alone shows so many direct copies of images out of other Hayao Miyazaki movies. From the dragon, the horseman, the dresses, the ships in the sand, … it just looks so copycat. I know it maybe unfair and harsh, but i feel like it's fan art for Hayao's movies….
