国内外で絶大な人気を誇る和月伸宏のコミック「るろうに剣心-明治剣客浪漫譚-」を、『ROOKIES』シリーズの佐藤健主演で実写化した時代劇アクション。人呼んで「人斬（き）り抜刀斎」こと若き剣客・緋村剣心が訪れた街で、彼の名を名乗る人物が起こした事件に遭遇する騒動を描いていく。剣心役の佐藤のほか、ヒロイン・薫に武井咲、剣心のライバル鵜堂刃衛に吉川晃司、斎藤一に江口洋介、武田観柳に香川照之がふんする。監督は、テレビドラマ「ハゲタカ」「龍馬伝」などの演出を手掛けた大友啓史。実力派俳優たちが息を吹き込むキャラクターたちの活躍を楽しみたい。
