Without speaking the language, I can see this town has a huge sea wall to protect it from Tsunami waves, as well as rock breakwaters in the bay to lessen the speed/strength of any oncoming waves. The Gentleman who was speaking in this video was most definitely concerned when the Tsunami began to breach the walls built to protect the town behind them. I am sure that many people in those homes did not evacuate or seek higher ground, as they believed their wall was Tsunami-proof, which it would have been, but the wave created by a 9.0 earthquake in a fault right next to Japan is going to be a "monster". Even people 6+ miles inland were inundated by this Tsunami (even when sheltered in 3-story buildings, as well as evacuation "shelters"). I hope this never happens again to Japan, & if it does, I hope everyone heads into safe evacuation areas as soon as the earthquake (s) stop.
The government’s first warning was for tsunami of 10 meters, thirty ft, many seawalls had been built to this height. Many people followed their hearts, children, elders, other families. Disbelief and shock, followed by fight, flight, or stand still are well known responses to adrenalin. There wasn’t enough time, multiple aftershocks over 6 Richter in first hour. Two 7.0 Richter aftershocks in first hour. The 2004 earthquake wasn’t felt in many areas. No warning anywhere.
I know this was devastating and to watch and be hopeless is agraveting, and this is why I cried my eyes out when I watched Tidel wave movie, because you know there are people living the real life
An Australian reporter who lived in Japan went to see this town a couple of days after, he said it was totally devistated . Many many died, because they thought the wall would keep them safe.Just heart breaking.
How can I change the subtitles so that it actually say what the man is saying I would really like to here what he is saying my subtitles are saying something totally different this is horrible I can't imagine myself in this situation hope he made it out
I remember watching this live on the news It was from a helicopter and followed the leading edge of the tsunami through strawberry Fields farmland and people in cars trying to escape much sorrow and death But this is some amazing footage thank you for putting it together

So sad. The damage is so great! 😳😔 the loss of lives….
Unbelievable.
The water is being kind, more than enough time to get to higher ground, why so many people lost their lives?
A total loss. How would you clean up. ?
Aaaaa Suey, Suey, this guys voice drives me crazy. Suey to you to.
Those that lived in the flood zone Jose to live in a huge bathtub
So sad
Unbelievable footage poor souls rip

The level of the water difference between 2:00 and 8:48 mark. Unreal.

the deluge the tsunami brought with it startled me! The bay is deep enough to weld all individual waves into one surge
La traducción en inglés ……😕
Sometimes it just ain't enough.
I've read that the tsunami was amplified due to the earthquake lowering the east coast by a few feet.
these captions are amazing!! Lmao!

SCREAM LOUDER NOBODY ON PLUTO CAN HEAR YOU

Terrible 😢
🇮🇩🤝🙏🏽😭😭😭🤲
