  3. This is sound like a self insert OC fan fic by a back weeb who want to be best friend with his favourite Japanese historical character
But it so crazy it happened
who it took that long for an anime or a movie

  4. Yasuke is fascinating, it's known that he survived the battle that killed Nobunaga, but he completely disappeared off the map after that. and considering he was a tall black man in Japan at the time, it shouldn't be so hard to find him, yet no one knows what happened to him after the battle

  5. Im so hyped for this Anime man, it's probably going to carry this season

  6. I know this has nothing to do with the video, but I recently just saw the Violet Evergarden movie (a day ago).
It was absolutely amazing! I cried a couple of times lol. The finale of Violet's character arc was great.
The animation was stunning, even better than the original 13 ep series (if that's even possible). It was a real treat to watch on the big screen. Thank you Kyoani!
Anyway, I hope you get to watch it soon and make a vid on it when u do 😀

  7. I read the book about him! I'm so freakin excited to see the anime

  8. The African Man

From your perspective the narrative is sadly missing!!!
There are at least two questions that we shall address to you!

    1. What about the African perspective?

    2. The Yasuke is naturally a wise humble man;
Who happens to be a romantic human,
so therefore what about his love interest??

To conclude: "This world places so much emphasis on appearances
and imagery; However we from 'Inspirational Good News!!'
    Place emphasis not on colour,
but rather character of creative human invention.
    That is our genuine intention."

  9. yasuke was not a samurai, he was a servant to nobunaga. he was more well known bc, as he was black, he was considered unique. stop trying to rewrite history. first egytpians, then native americans, japanese, what next?

  10. The origin of Yasuke story comes from the first volume of "History of the Japanese Church" written by Francois Sorie (a Jesuit catholic missionary) in 1627. This is 13 years after Catholicism was eradicated from Japan (and 45 years after Yasuke supposedly was a samurai).
It's an interesting story but no one has ever cited a reliable authentic Japanese record from the Sengoku period that shows Yasuke the samurai actually existed.

There are extensive written records from Japan regarding William Adams (Miura Anjin) and Jan Joosten van Lodensteijn (Yayosu). It's odd that not a single word was ever written about an African samurai when contemporary records at the same time exist for English and Dutch samurai.
It seems very odd when the only source is a story from a Jesuit missionary 13 years after Catholicism was purged from Japan. At best its treated as kabuki type story and at worst as joke by Japanese historians.

From a Jesuit perspective a possible motive for the story is to insult Japanese by implying they were so "uncivilised" that they would grant feudal title to a black slave just as they had for "heretic protestant" Dutch and English.

The real kicker is that the whole story can even be interpreted as a 16th century Jesuit equivalent of calling the two heretic protestant samurai the N-word. This may be hard to swallow for anyone who is invested in this fantasy but the entire story was written by a Jesuit in the 16th century who viewed Japan as evil for purging Catholicism and viewed the shogun as under control of heretics, you should keep that in mind when reading about the story of Yasuke.

That's not denying Africans from Mozambique were present in Nagasaki (Portugal’s trading station) there were, and there are even Japanese illustrations of Africans from the period. But if the Shogun elevates a foreigner to samurai – it's a big deal and should have been recorded at least by someone. But there's also probably a grain of truth that an African could get the 16th century equivalent of celebrity status in Japan simply for being unique or even possibly be pressed into feudal service as Ashigaru – but to be given feudal title simply for being African is absurd.
