In this video essay, I delve into why I believe Yasuke is a failed attempt to make a good show, or, more simply put, why it sucks. All clips used are used for the purposes of analysis, critique, and review, and therefore fall under FAIR USE.

God I hope Netflix knows it failed due to a crappy story and not because it’s main character is black
You are now my mortal enemy I really liked the show😭 BUT I get what youre saying. The world isnt well built and we are just needed to assume things. Not many characters have their needed depth. I feel like alot of the issues the show has is that it was all forced to be smashed into 6 episodes. Everything is rushed through so fast that show isn't allowed to develop which is an utter shame. Its like 2 seasons were cut into 6 episodes
Despite those downsides I found it to be a fun ride throughout
Brandon Sanderson has an interesting video about world building & magic systems. Some authors debated with him whether or not it should be scientific or have less-defined rules. But I'll admit even with less-defined rules there's definitely a way to properly execute it. & There are ways that are pointless and make no sense lol.
It's LeSean Thomas dude is obsessed with mechas and old anime tropes. Then he had the odasity to say he didn't male the show for hard core anime fans his aim was casuals and even casuals want a show and story thats well structured and makes sense. He messed up big time I hope Mappa and them pther studios don't give this guy more chances he messed up twice now first with Canon Busters then with this crap.
hopfully someone else does a Yasuke anime. His story deserves to be told the right way without random magic and robots and most importantly without LeSean Thomas.
If I was the writer I would have focused on Yasuke's perspective of Japan and his asjustment and also motivations based on his past of becoming a Samurai and helping Nobunaga's cause woth ofcourse internal and external conflict hindering him and making him question his dedication and goals in life. Along with this Vinland Saga type of over the top action along with a deep political storyline linked to.the real history of what happened 1 year before Nobunaga's death and Yasuke playing a part in being an obstacle against the antagonistic force after Nobunaga's head. Seriously this anime could have been a master piece in the making LeSean shouldn't try and write anymore animes he should stick to producing snd leaving the writing to others.
Afro samurai did everything in this only better.
Haha I only made it to 10 mins into the 3rd episode before I turned that garbage off. Wasted opportunity, I’m hoping someone else can come and redo the Yasuke story. Mech robots , mutants, magic in 15th century feudal Japan? 🤦🏾♂️
LeSean Thomas… The guy that thinks Muslims were north african black men that ruled Europe for 800 years is bad at writing a historical account? Say it ain't so… I already knew this was going to be bad. Western entertainment has fallen down the gutter in both quality and story telling. Just more victimhood and socialist propaganda trash.
There's zero evidence of this so black samurai zero
