As a story, and also as an “if” of what it would be like if there were an AI-run trial, it’s very well made.
The protagonist’s actions and psychological state are carefully built up, giving the story a strong sense of inevitability.

It also adds tension that the protagonist put on trial is a highly capable detective who carries a certain problem—his exchanges with the trial AI have real bite.

Even though it’s essentially a chamber piece, the fact that every kind of investigation is possible makes sense.
With technological progress and with the system of AI trials permeating society, it feels plausible that all personal information would be placed under management and could be referenced at any time.
Including the search results the AI produces and the suggestions it makes from them, it has a realism that makes you think: a few years from now, this is probably what things will look like.

The contrast between an AI of logic and human intuition is also interesting.

But after watching the whole thing, something bothered me.

It was the part that forms the backbone of the story: the motive of the true culprit that led to the detective being put on trial.
The very first part of the buildup leading to that motive felt sloppy to me.

Because he’s a capable detective, he can go back and forth with the trial AI—
but if he were an ordinary person instead…
Is the fairness of this trial really guaranteed? That’s the question that stayed with me.

Precisely because the core of the story is the judicial system itself, I felt the supporting framework there was a bit weak.

The trial AI’s speed in presenting evidence, the speed of its searches, the way it’s shown—everything is impressive.
Which is exactly why I kept thinking: what about an ordinary person who can’t make full use of that?

To the point that I found myself thinking about it in such a realistic way, I also felt it was an ambitious work depicting a future that could actually happen.

A film you should watch now.
