『バレリーナ：The World of John Wick』ランス・レディック インタビュー映像【2025年8月22日公開】
キアヌ・リーブスが体現する超絶アクションと、スタイリッシュで奇妙な独自の世界観で人気を誇る「ジョン・ウィック」シリーズ。そのスピンオフ最新作『バレリーナ：The World of John Wick』が、8月22日より公開中。
本作は、第3作『ジョン・ウィック：パラベラム』（2019年）の時間軸と交差しながら展開する、新たな“復讐の女神”イヴの物語。キアヌ・リーブスが5度目となるジョン・ウィック役で出演するほか、「ジョン・ウィック」シリーズの住人たちが多数登場する。ニューヨーク・コンチネンタルホテルの忠実なコンシェルジュ、シャロンもその一人だ。
『ジョン・ウィック』から『コンセクエンス』（2023年）まで、すべてのJW映画に登場し、その紳士的で時に頼りがいのあるキャラクターは、多くのJWファンに愛されてきた。
しかし、シャロンを演じてきたアメリカ人俳優ランス・レディックが、2023年3月に60歳の若さで亡くなった。本作のクランクアップからわずか数週間後のことだった。JWシリーズとしては、『バレリーナ』が彼の遺作となる。
ランス・レディックは1962年、メリーランド州生まれ。大学時代はイーストマン大学で音楽を、イェール大学演劇学校で演技を専攻。『LOST』や『FRINGE/フリンジ』などの人気ドラマシリーズに数多く出演し、俳優のほかミュージシャンとしても活躍してきた。主な出演作に、『大いなる遺産』（1998年）、『サウンド・オブ・サイレンス』（2001年）、『ザ・ゲスト』（14年）、『エンド・オブ・ステイツ』（19年）、『ゴジラvsコング』（21年）などがある。
ランスが演じてきたシャロンは、JWシリーズの登場人物たちの奥深さや多面性を象徴するかのような存在だ。振り返れば、シャロンは第1作『ジョン・ウィック』において、華麗に仕事をこなす紳士的なコンシェルジュとして初登場。第2作『チャプター2』でジョンの愛犬を仕事外で預かる優しい一面を見せたかと思えば、第3作『パラベラム』ではジョンと一緒に華麗な銃撃戦を披露した。『バレリーナ』の撮影が行われたのは、シャロンが劇中で死を遂げた第4作『コンセクエンス』の公開前の時期。本作は時系列が『パラベラム』の時点まで戻るため、ランスはシャロンを再演する機会を得ることになった。
このインタビュー映像では、脚本を最初に読んだときの印象から、アナ・デ・アルマスの演技や、長年演じてきたシャロン役の変化について語っている。
ランスは本作の脚本を読んで、その新たな世界観に驚いたと同時に、そこにシェイクスピアの影響を感じたという。JWシリーズと『バレリーナ』を比較しながら、ここまで拡大してきたJWワールドについて次のように分析している。「最初の『ジョン・ウィック』は、登場人物たちが、文化的制約の中でそれぞれの個性を主張しようとしていたけれど、この作品はそれを家族のレベルまで広げている。『リア王』や『ハムレット』やギリシャ悲劇を想起したんだ」。その完成度の高さに思わず、レン・ワイズマン監督にシェイクスピアが好きなのか聞いてしまうほど、本作の脚本は彼の知性とマッチしたようだ。
続いて、インタビューはシリーズ初の女性主人公に抜擢されたアナ・デ・アルマスの話題に。
ランスはアナのアクションを『007／ノー・タイム・トゥ・ダイ』で初めて見たというが、この映画のイヴは、それ以上に「タフさが問われる」役であると同時に、「哀愁が感じられる」役でもあると分析。そして、アナはそうした「極めて繊細な演技を見事に演じ分けられる」、稀有な俳優だと太鼓判を押した。劇中ではイヴがコンチネンタル・ホテルを訪れ、シャロンと会話するシーンも描かれる。アナとランスの初共演シーンにも注目だ。
さらに、ランスの分析眼は作品や主人公ばかりでなく、自身の役“シャロン”にまで向く。これまで演じてきた他作品とは「まったく違う役」だと語りつつ、シャロン役について「この役を演じてワクワクしたのは、これまで経験のない役柄だったから」と振り返る。また、その考察はJWシリーズを通じたシャロンの変化にまで及び、「作品を通してシャロンの変化を追ってみると、最初はミステリアスなキャラクターだったが、次第に心を持った存在へと変わる。ジョンが作品の“魂”なら、シャロンは“心”だろう」と、本作のタイトルロールであるジョン・ウィックと双璧をなす重要なキャラクターだと静かに語り、最後のインタビューを締めくくった。

When I read the script, I was really um I didn’t think you could find a way to uh expand the world in a way that felt completely different and at the same time completely connected, but they did. Uh, and the thing that I the the thing that you know it’s interesting I was talking to Len the director tonight and I asked him you know are you a big fan of classics particularly Shakespeare because it feels very Shakespearean u because it deals uh with um the bounds individuals trying to assert their individuality within the bounds of the the of of of um cultural restrictions. Um but this takes it to the level of family. So, it just it made me think of Lear and, you know, Hamlet, all that stuff. And the action I it just even though the story uh is is incredibly cohesive and um exciting, the action’s off the hook. The only action I’ve ever seen her do was uh James Bond. Uh, and as a matter of fact, that was the first time I’d ever seen her. And um, and this role requires such she’s she it just seems like once she gets going, pretty much twothirds of the movie is just her fighting and running for her life. Uh, and um, and killing 20 people at a time. Um but um there’s so much pathos to the character so requires um um such a a deep and nuanced level of acting. And so because I think she’s capable of doing both, it’s really I think it’s really going to be exciting to see her do this. The word that comes to my mind, well two words that come to my mind are suave and smooth. when people try to act at it, um, it looks cheesy. Um, but Ian just seems to be able to be to be it. People that love the John Wick films are going to love uh seeing uh the not only the world expanded upon, but specifically seeing the the world of the Ruskaroma come to life. Uh and then there’s uh there’s it the notion that you could take a mythology that is so unique and expand it into expand it with almost a complete other mythology uh is really exciting and I think people will love that and then everybody’s going to get to see all the great John Wick action. I mean this role is so different because even when I even when I do comedy um usually I’m I’m playing uh author authoritative figures that talk a lot. So one of the things that was so so um exciting for me about playing this role in the first place was that it was he was so different from anyone I’d ever played before. So you can’t really play uh uh you you can’t really effectively play an archetype. You can only play a character. Um but you know kind of standing from the outside I realized that um one of the great things about Chiron watching his watching his growth through the films is that you you go from seeing him as a character of mystery to a character of uh heart. I really I really believe that if John if John Wick is the soul of these movies, Chiron is the heart. Welcome to the What a pleasure to see you again. You have no idea what you just walked into. They killed my father. How do I start doing what you do? Looks like you already have.
